Panthers S Sean Chandler suspended for violating PED policy

Sean Chandler will be hitting the open market with a caveat.

As announced by the Carolina Panthers on Monday afternoon, the safety and soon-to-be free agent has been suspended for the first two games of the 2023 season. Chandler was deemed in violation of the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The 26-year-old has played five professional seasons, with his first three coming as a member of the New York Giants. Big Blue scooped up the local native—a Camden, N.J. boy and Temple University product—as an undrafted free agent in May of 2018.

After his stint in New York—which saw him play in 32 games—Chandler was signed off the Giants’ practice squad by the Panthers in the middle of the 2020 campaign. There, he’d reunite with former Temple head coach Matt Rhule and defensive coordinator Phil Snow.

Chandler went on to start in seven of his 15 games for Carolina in 2021—amassing 48 combined tackles, a forced fumble and one pass defensed. He’d serve mostly as a special teamer this past season, appearing in all 17 outings.
