Panthers reportedly signing RB Mike Boone to active roster

Mike Boone will have a more established seat in the Carolina Panthers’ running back room.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the team is signing Boone to their active 53-man roster. The 29-year-old veteran entered the regular season as a member of Carolina’s practice squad.

Boone first signed with the Panthers last season, joining their practice squad prior to the 2023 season finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was kept around a week later after inking a reserve/future contract.

Prior to his stint in Carolina, Boone split his first six NFL seasons between three teams—the Minnesota Vikings (2018 to 2020), the Denver Broncos (2021 to 2022) and the Houston Texans (2023). He appeared in 66 games over that time, rushing for 546 yards and four touchdowns on 108 attempts.

The Panthers designated Boone as one of two practice-squad elevations for this past Sunday’s regular-season opener in New Orleans. He ran for seven yards on four carries in the 47-10 loss to the Saints.
