Panthers reportedly open to trading WR Robbie Anderson

The Carolina Panthers, even despite firing their head coach five weeks into the season, are not having a fire sale. But that doesn’t mean they won’t answer the phone.

On Saturday, both ESPN senior writer Adam Schefter and NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that the team is currently listening to offers on star running back Christian McCaffrey. Schefter even noted that Carolina has already turned down two inquiries for their do-it-all rusher as recently as last week.

Well, it doesn’t seem like McCaffrey is the only name drawing some interest.

“Wide receiver DJ Moore, pass rusher Brian Burns and defensive tackle Derrick Brown are among the other players teams are calling about, but it’s highly unlikely any of those players would be traded,” Rapoport writes. “They are considered building blocks for the future, the kind of players who would draw a new coach. Same with the rebuilt and effective offensive line.”

But Schefter, in his work, did mention a player who general manager Scott Fitterer wouldn’t mind finding a deal for. He writes:

“One player the Panthers are open to moving, according to sources, is wide receiver Robbie Anderson, who played for former head coach Matt Rhule at Temple. The Panthers have had conversations with other teams about Anderson, and he remains a strong potential deadline trade candidate.”

Anderson is currently in the second season of a two-year, $29.5 million extension. Fresh off the worst campaign of his pro career, the 29-year-old has reeled in 13 receptions for 206 yards and a touchdown through five games in 2022.
