Not only is the latest addition to the Carolina Panthers’ staff familiar with head coach Dave Canales, but he’s also familiar with the man under center.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Panthers are hiring Dallas Cowboys quality coach and offensive assistant Will Harriger as their quarterbacks coach. Harriger has crossed paths with both Canales and quarterback Bryce Young during his 20-year coaching career.
He’d work the Seattle Seahawks’ sideline alongside Canales from 2014 to 2018, when the latter was a wide receivers coach and quarterbacks and the former an offensive assistant. In addition to Dallas and Seattle, he’s picked up stints in the NFL as an offensive assistant, game management coordinator and running backs coach for the Atlanta Falcons between 2019 and 2020 and as an offensive assistant for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.
Harriger worked with Young during his time at QB Collective, a development program for high school quarterbacks. The “pro-style pipeline” has also hosted the likes of former and current NFL head coaches—including Mike and Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt LaFleur, Mike McDaniel, Kevin Stefanski and Kevin O’Connell.
