Panthers release WR Dezmon Patmon from practice squad

After bringing in a trio of additions on Monday, the Carolina Panthers practice squad saw a bit of subtraction this afternoon.

As reported by Augusta Stone of Panthers.com on Tuesday, the team has released wideout Dezmon Patmon from the group. The 25-year-old receiver was signed to the practice squad one week ago, prior to the team’s regular-season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Patmon played collegiately at Washington State University from 2016 to 2019. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder would then be selected by Frank Reich’s Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft and appeared in just one game during his rookie campaign.

He went on to play in nine games over the next two seasons in Indianapolis, recording 45 yards and a touchdown off four receptions. Before coming to Carolina, Patmon spent this past summer with the Buffalo Bills.

Following Patmon’s release, the Panthers now have one open spot on their practice squad.
