Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks to start 2024 season on PUP/NFI list

The Carolina Panthers will keep practicing patience with running back Jonathon Brooks.

As first reported by ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday morning, the rookie rusher will begin the 2024 season on the physically unable to perform/non-football injury list. Brooks, who was placed on the active/non-football injury list on July 19, has spent the entire summer on the shelf as he continues to heal from a torn ACL.

Brooks sustained the injury back in November, while playing for the University of Texas Longhorns. He’d still go on to become the very first running back selected in the 2024 NFL draft, as the Panthers moved up into the 46th overall spot to secure the then-20-year-old.

With teams having to get down to their initial 53-man groups by 4 p.m. ET today, Brooks’ placement on the PUP/NFI list essentially opens up a spot on the Carolina roster. The move will also keep Brooks out of action for at least the first four games of the regular season.
