Even in the midst of instability, for both he and the Carolina Panthers, all Christian McCaffrey can do is what he does best—play football. So, that’s what he did on Sunday.
The sixth-year running back, once again, chalked up a weighty performance for Carolina in Week 6—totaling 158 yards on 20 touches in the 24-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. That output accounted for 74.5 percent of the offense’s yards from scrimmage, the second-highest share in the NFL over the past 20 seasons.
He did all of that, unsurprisingly, fresh off being the subject of a flurry of trade rumors earlier in the weekend—ones that insinuated that the Panthers are “listening” on offers for their star rusher. And when asked of those rumblings after the game by Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, McCaffrey said he’s just worried about doing his job for the organization he’s currently with.
“All that stuff’s out of my control,” he stated. “My job is to be the best Carolina Panther I can be and do everything I can for my teammates.”

Well, as we just detailed, he did do just about everything for his teammates. But how much longer will that be the case?
