Panthers OC Thomas Brown hints at what he wants in a QB

The big conundrum for the Carolina Panthers, an issue that’s dragged on for about four years now, is the one under center. And now that Thomas Brown is in the building, he’s going to be a part of finally figuring that problem out.

On Thursday, the team’s new offensive coordinator took to the lectern for his introductory press conference. Among questions on his philosophies, influences and relationships, the 36-year-old was asked about what he wants in a quarterback.

And without divulging too much information, he gave us a little bit of an idea.

“A really good one,” he said with a smile. “I think it’s a lot of guys that kinda come in all shapes and sizes. But to me, it’s an ongoing conversation. We had some great dialogue the last couple days. It’s about who fits into this system, but also having a point guard mentality. Being able to distribute the ball to your playmakers and on third down, red zone, two-minute, go play Superman.”

Ironically enough, the Panthers haven’t had a Superman since Cam Newton’s first flight with the franchise—a nine-year run that ended after the 2019 campaign.

But with the draft approaching, a handful of intriguing prospects to consider and the ninth overall pick in tow, Carolina might be hoping for someone to emerge from a phone booth come spring.
