Panthers legend Steve Smith Sr. reacts to Oscars’ slap heard around the world

Apparently, Smiths stick together.

On Sunday night, the 94th Academy Awards briefly turned into a scene out of “The Karate Kid” (not the remake, the good one) when Will Smith slapped fellow actor and comedian Chris Rock. Rock, the host of the annual Hollywood event, dropped a joke about Will’s wife, Jada—which the former prince obviously thought was too fresh.

Shortly after, Carolina Panthers great Steve Smith Sr. dropped a joke of his own—with this one landing at the expense of Rock.

Smith Sr. is no stranger to confrontation, both verbal and physical. In addition to his spicy and legendary trash talk, the prolific wideout had delivered a stunning smackdown or two in his day as well.

The GIF he breaks out here, of course, alludes to his famous “Ice up, son” rant directed towards Aqib Talib following an emotional Monday night win against the New England Patriots. Smith Sr., who had mixed it up with Talib multiple times during that 2013 matchup, got the last laugh (and slap) with a 42-yard catch on the corner and the big primetime victory.

Smith (Will, that is) ended his night with a win as well. The 53-year-old captured Best Actor honors for his performance in “King Richard.”
