Panthers DL DeShawn Williams announces new uniform number

While some new Carolina Panthers signees are trying to lock down their uniform digits, others are already showing off theirs. Among the latter group is DeShawn Williams, who rolled his out with a powerful edit on Saturday evening.

The soon-to-be fifth-year defensive lineman will be wearing No. 96—a different, but pretty sweet fit for the big man . . .

Williams, who will be headed back home on a one-year deal, is a native of Central, S.C. He attended D.W. Daniel High School and then went on to play his college ball at nearby Clemson University—where he wore No. 99.

The 6-foot-1, 292-pounder would crack into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015. He debuted a year later in 2016, amassing half a sack and four quarterback hits over four games.

After five stops following his departure from Cincinnati, Williams landed as a member of the Denver Broncos’ active roster beginning in 2020. As No. 90 and No. 99 for the ponies, he totaled 113 tackles and 7.5 sacks through the 2022 campaign.

The most notable Panthers to have previously worn No. 96 include fellow defensive linemen Tyler Brayton, Wes Horton and Al Wallace.
