The Carolina Panthers are getting richer on defense, and they’re stealing from a division rival in the process.
As first reported by ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, the team is in agreement on a deal with former New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Shy Tuttle. The pact is worth $19.5 million—with $13 million guaranteed—over three years.

A local boy, Tuttle was born in Midway, N.C. and later attended North Davidson High School. He then played at the University of Tennessee from 2015 to 2018.
Tuttle went undrafted and was eventually signed by New Orleans on April 27, 2019. He’s played in 63 games with 33 starts for the Saints over his four pro seasons—amassing 143 combined tackles (nine for a loss), 4.0 sacks, eight quarterback hits, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pounder, now at 27 years old, would likely fit as a defensive end in Carolina’s new 3-4 base under coordinator Ejiro Evero.
