Panic in Top Valley community after word of serious assault began to spread

A Top Valley mum spoke of panic in the area after word of a serious assault began to spread. Officers were called to Charlock Close, Top Valley, shortly after 4pm today (Wednesday 16 March 2022).

A male has been taken to hospital and a cordon remains in place. Amy Duke, a mum who lives in the area, said she initially thought it was her son who had been attacked.

"My friend messaged me saying a boy had just been stabbed," said the 30-year-old. "I've never been so scared in my life, I just started crying. She said 'where is your son?' I've never ran so fast in my life."

Amy's young son was found safe, however she added: "It just makes you want to move. I don't feel safe at all. There's always stabbings and guns, it's such a bad area to live in.

"I thought it was my son. But that's someone else's son, the family must be going through such a hard time."

Madison Williams, who lives nearby, said she had "no idea" what was going on when she saw the cordon near Tesco. "I thought it would be something petty, like someone stealing or something," she said.

"I had no idea it would be that bad." The 21-year-old, who moved to the area in August last year, added: "This is the first incident I have seen."

One resident told Nottinghamshire Live that they believe a 'young lad' was involved in a serious assault. The resident stated that neighbours had tried to help stem the flow of blood with towels before emergency services arrived to take him away.

Detective Inspector Gail Routledge said: “Officers were in attendance in a matter of minutes and are working hard to understand the circumstances of what happened. Anyone who saw the incident or has any information is asked to call us on 101, quoting incident 476 of 16 March 2022."
