Paneer has long been one of the most popular protein-rich foods in Indian households, particularly among vegetarians. However, growing concerns over food adulteration have put the spotlight on analogue or non-dairy paneer, prompting the Maharashtra government to take strict action.
The state has now banned the manufacture, sale, storage and distribution of analogue paneer, warning that violations could attract legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
