NEW YORK — Pamela Anderson is ready to take center stage.
The actress and model said she feels “great” during rehearsals as she nears her Broadway debut in “Chicago” next month.
“I like that kind of dangerous, crazy feeling that you can’t do something, and then you surprise yourself,” Anderson said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Wednesday. “You don’t know what you’re capable of until you try it, and so that’s what I’m really curious about, is what can I actually do?”
Anderson will star as the dancer-turned-murderer Roxie Hart in the long-running Broadway musical at Manhattan’s Ambassador Theatre for eight weeks, with her first show scheduled for April 12.
The Canadian-born Anderson, 54, said she’s in her second week of rehearsals in New York and is embracing the challenge of starring on stage.
“It’s just unbelievable that anyone even offered me this kind of role, so I’m gonna give it all I have. I’m not gonna let myself down. Not gonna let my family down,” Anderson said on “GMA.”
“I just feel like this is really a moment for me to shine for once. I’m doing this for myself, which is rare.”
Anderson, who portrayed C.J. Parker on the lifeguard drama series “Baywatch,” will become the latest big-name star to play Roxie on Broadway, with others including supermodels Christie Brinkley and Brooke Shields and stage actors Gwen Verdon and Liza Minnelli.
“This is serious singing and dancing and choreography, and I’m just soaking it up like a sponge,” Anderson said.
“Chicago” is Broadway’s longest-running musical, having played since the show was revived in 1996. It originally debuted on Broadway in 1975.
Anderson’s final show is set to take place on June 5.
