Pam Bondi latest Trump crony to flee DC to military base, fearful of consequences of Epstein files

Historians will know that it’s generally a bad sign when people in power wall themselves off from the people they’re supposed to be governing. Without wanting to get too deep into political philosophy, this is basically the root of the notion of the “consent of the governed”, which is the root of the US Constitution.

Or, to put it simply, it’s rarely a good omen for a nation when those in power are terrified of the people they have power over. So it’s telling that, over recent months, many in the Trump regime have fled DC and now live under armed guard in secure accommodation on military bases.

Those include the likes of Stephen Miller, Marco Rubio, Kristi Noem, and Pete Hegseth. Now, as reported by The New York Times, Attorney General Pam Bondi has “quietly” joined them. Her rationale is apparently fear of reprisal from drug cartels and threats following Trump’s attack on Venezuela.

But, tellingly, their sources also underline that Bondi is running scared from “critics of her actions in handling the Jeffrey Epstein case”. This saga saw Bondi initially claim she had an Epstein “client list” ready to release, saying, “it’s sitting on my desk right now”.

Confusingly, Bondi then walked that back with the Department of Justice saying they had “no evidence” a client list existed at all. Suspicions of a cover-up grew, with Bondi insisting that her remarks had been “taken out of context”.

Like rats from a sinking ship

MAGA promptly erupted in indignation, saying that Bondi was either lying or incompetent – and neither is a good look. Since then, Bondi has faced accusations of “slow-walking” the release and that they’re purposefully incomplete.

More recently, the House Oversight Committee subpoenaed Bondi in early March 2026 to testify on the handling, delays, redactions, and compliance with the Transparency Act. Democrats accused the administration of a cover-up to protect Trump; some conservatives criticized Bondi for not delivering more revelations.

Well, whatever the case, those “critics” of Bondi have sent her scurrying from her DC accommodation and onto a Washington military base, where she presumably feels safe from the public’s anger.

Look, given the political temperature, it’s all too understandable that senior politicians don’t want to put themselves and their families in needless danger. Even so, prior administrations didn’t feel the need to live behind armed guards and behind barbed-wire fences. Maybe that says something.
