A man charged with 21 child sex offences, including one of incest, has been remanded in custody with the case being adjourned for "longer than usual" to allow police time to analyse more evidence.
The man, in his 30s, appeared via visual-audio link in the ACT Magistrates Court where Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker read out 19 fresh charges, including using a child to produce child exploitation material, sexual intercourse with a young person and acts of indecency.
The man has not pleaded to the charges, which allegedly occurred during 2018.
He also faces two other child sex charges laid earlier.
ACT Policing in a Thursday statement said that earlier this year, joint anti-child exploitation team members received information from the Australian Center to Counter Child Exploitation regarding the alleged peer-to-peer sharing of child abuse material.
After a month of investigation, police executed a search warrant at a Canberra premises where computing devices, which police allege contained thousands of videos and still images, were seized.
In court, bail was not applied for and the defendant was remanded in custody.
The matter was adjourned to June 16.
Prosecutor Sam Bargwanna said the "longer than usual adjournment" was sought because police were analysing video and visual evidence.
"There's more of that to be analysed," Mr Bargwanna said.
