Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants to add a new central midfielder to his squad in the January transfer window. The Gunners have been linked with a number of talented midfielders across Europe and South America.
football.london understands Arsenal have already agreed personal terms with Leicester star Youri Tielemans with the Belgium international's contract set to expire at the end of the season. The Gunners have put off making an official bid for the 25-year-old but may accelerate their plans should a rival club make a move for the Foxes' midfielder.
Arsenal had three bids rejected for Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz on Deadline Day whilst Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is now said to have 'changed his mind' over a move to the Emirates Stadium. Palmeiras talent Danilo Santos was also on the Gunners' radar with reports suggesting the north Londoners failed with a £21million bid during the summer.

Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola detailed the players who may leave Palmeiras in the next couple of months in a recent report, with the 21-year-old midfielder featuring as one of the main candidates. The reporter outlines that Arsenal offered £21million for Danilo on Deadline Day in the summer transfer window, a bid which was turned down by Palmeiras at the time, but things may now have changed for the Brazilian outfit.
“If this proposal is repeated, Palmeiras should end up negotiating the athlete,” says Jorge Nicola, hinting that a new bid from Arsenal may be accepted. Palmeiras president Leila Mejdalani Pereira told geglobo: “Danilo is a very important player for our squad.
"As of now, we’ve not received any proposal from teams abroad. We haven’t had any consultations, if we do, we will analyse what’s best for Palmeiras and the player."
Pereira's comments suggest that should the Gunners make a move for Danilo, a bid could be accepted in January. At the time of the Gunners’ offer in the summer, Palmeiras were still fighting for the Copa Libertadores and Brazilian League titles, so the club didn't want to lose a key player mid-season.
Danilo has not shown the best form for his club in the past few months which could be one reason why the Brazilian outfit may be open to accepting a bid in January. After Danilo's teammate, Endrick, sealed a huge money move to Real Madrid which will be completed in 2024, the young midfielder could be the next big talent to leave Palmeiras and seal a move to Europe.
