A Palestinian doctor in Gaza has shared harrowing accounts of the dire situation in the enclave after 300 days of Israel's offensive. Dr. Mohammed Mohsen, working at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, described scenes of patients dying due to lack of space and basic medical supplies.
The doctor emphasized the overwhelming challenges faced by the medical system in Gaza, which has been severely impacted by Israel's relentless bombing campaign. The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that over 39,480 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 885 health workers. Currently, only 14 out of 36 hospitals are partially operational.
Dr. Mohsen expressed his exhaustion and burnout as he works long shifts exceeding 60 hours, all while caring for his sick mother and father. He pleaded for the international community to continue shedding light on the plight of Gaza and to advocate for an end to the ongoing conflict.
He stressed the importance of humanizing the stories of those affected by the violence, stating, 'We are human beings and we need to live in peace. When we see you talking about us, this gives us some release. At least if we passed away, we would not be anonymous.'
The doctor's testimony, shared by the UK-based NGO Medical Aid for Palestinians, serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for humanitarian intervention in Gaza to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the crossfire.
