- The Israeli military stated that al-Wahidi was not the intended target, claiming the operation aimed at a Hamas militant and that they were investigating if the driver, Ahmed Daghmush, was the target.
- However, Dr Mohamed Abu Selmiya, director of Shifa Hospital, maintained that Daghmush, a taxi driver, was not known to be affiliated with any militant group.
