Pakistan has strengthened its position in the first Test at Rawalpindi, defying Australia's bowlers through a long and difficult day two.
Played with the memory of Shane Warne conspicuously in the foreground of both players and fans, it was a day of slow and methodical cricket that ended early when the light had heavily deteriorated.
Pakistan declared in the third session at 4-476, Australia managing only to take three wickets in the day to that point.
Azhar Ali (185) completed his century in a fabulous partnership with Imam-Ul-Haq (157) as the hosts looked to bat the Australians out of the game.
Pat Cummins removed Imam after lunch with a ball that swung reverse and trapped the batter in front, but after that no wickets fell until Pakistan's desperation for quick runs increased.
Marnus Labuschagne completed a sharp direct hit run out to remove Babar Azam 36, before Azhar's fine knock ended while attempting to switch hit Labuschagne's leg spin over the in field.
Pakistan had hoped to send Australia in for a tricky hour of batting, but were allowed only one over of spin before the umpires brought play to a halt.
Australia is 0-5 at stumps and facing the daunting prospect of having to bat for at least a day or more to stay alive in the Test match.

THAT'S STUMPS! Australia 0-5 trails by 471 runs
As expected then. Play will start half an hour early tomorrow to make up the lost time.
All Pakistan again today, with the hosts in a fantastic position to go on and make a fist of winning this Test. Australia have some serious batting ahead of them over the next coupe of days to stay alive in this Test.
The day was owned by Azhar Ali, who completed his century and kicked on. He and Imam-Ul-Haq were particularly brilliant in this innings, aided by a brief Babar Azam cameo. All about Pakistan's bowlers and Australia's batters tomorrow though, and that's where I will see you next.
Until then, have a good night.

THEY'RE COMING OFF FOR BAD LIGHT
Hell of a sport we've got here, hey. Stumps hasn't formally been called but I'd be surprised if we see any more cricket tonight.

1st over - Sajid Khan and his fabulous mo will bowl it
The umpires have belatedly come together and decided it is now too dark for the quicks to bowl, so spin it must be. Blame the heavy roller, I guess.
Bit of a weird one, but it'll be now instead Sajid instead.
He's all limbs, Sajid Khan. A slip and a gully in place for Khawaja, who works one fine on the off side for two to get off the mark.
Two more out to deep point. What a strange turn of events, the sting of the declaration has been taken out somewhat. Khawaja takes one to get David Warner on strike.
Warner can't get any away, so just the five from the first over of the innings.

1st over - Shaheen Shah Afridi will bowl it
Usman Khawaja will take strike, in a moment that will no doubt be of great significance to him too.
Brief hold up while the heavy roller VERY slowly leaves the field. Can't stress enough how long it is taking this piece of equipment to roll off the outfield. Alright, let's go.
45 minutes to play.
Wait, scratch all that...

Marnus the bowler
Good point, 76 of his 160 test overs, or around 48% have been against Pakistan - so 62% of a handful of wickets is close enough to par - and/or luck.
-Mike
It also suggests to me Marnus could and perhaps should probably bowl a little more. The more Tests he plays overseas, the more that will happen I'd say.

DECLARATION! Pakistan call it in at 4-476
It's come a little earlier than I would have thought but clearly Pakistan want a solid go at them tonight. The light is not great, which is probably also in Babar Azam's mind as he weighs up his options.
The run rate never really accelerated, but it's hard to be critical of that batting effort from Pakistan. They were just about faultless throughout, and wore Australia into the ground before eventually bringing their own innings to an end.
Interesting hour or so to come.

162nd over - Labuschagne's spell continues
Another lovely ball that spins and takes Iftikhar's leading edge. It's safe enough and he takes two.
FOUR RUNS! And there's the other side of Marnus. A full toss is whipped through midwicket for four by Iftikhar.
And another two through the same midwicket region.
Eight from the over.

161st over - Mitchell Starc tossed the ball
So 20 overs are left to bowl, but I doubt that will happen in an hour and 15 minutes at this rate. Plus we may see a declaration shortly, as it looks like all the Pakistan players are whited up.
For now, Starc bowls.
Singles from each of the first three balls of the over, two to third and one to cover.
Such is the dispersion of the field that Starc has to sprint to midwicket to field off his own bowling. He does well to keep that to one.
Four from the over, all in singles.

Can a nation be described as a bowler's 'bunny' ? 62% of Labuschagne's test wickets have been against Pakistan.
-Mike
I wonder what percentage of Labuschagne's Test overs have come against Pakistan too.

160th over - Marnus again
Iftikhar drives on the up and gets two out to deep point.
One more now, sharply taken to cover.
Rizwan works another way and shuffles through for a couple more, before driving down the ground for a single.
BEATEN! Every now and then he sends one of those through that rips past the off stump.
The players will have a drink as eyes turn to the Pakistani dressing room - is a declaration imminent?

159th over - Hazlewood bowling still
His 26th over of the innings.
FOUR RUNS! Easy as that! Rizwan just opens the face and prods at that one outside off, and somehow manages to find the backward point boundary.\
LOVELY SHOT! Entirely deliberate by Rizwan, he flicks his wrist and picks the gap between the keeper and gully. Four more.
Eight runs from that Hazlewood over.
By Dean Bilton
158th over - Labuschagne continues
Rizwan drives down the ground and literally walks through for his single.
Iftikhar off the mark with a single to long off.
Three singles off the over as the score reads 4-450.
By Dean Bilton
157th over - Hazlewood once more
SHOT! Well pulled by Rizwan who finds the rope! Excellent shot.
Interesting running from Iftikhar. Made hard work of completing what should have been an easy single and ended up collapsing over the crease.
Great fielding from Labuschagne at cover again denies Iftikhar his first runs. Five from that over.
By Dean Bilton
156th over still - Marnus has two to come
Iftikhar Ahmed is in now. He and Rizwan could bring some fireworks.
Ifthikar plays them out safely enough.
By Dean Bilton
OUT! MARNUS HAS A WICKET! AZHAR OUT SWITCH-HITTING!
Azhar Ali's fine innings ends on 185 and in interesting fashion. He tried to switch hit Labuschagne with the spin, but made poor contact and provided Green the chance to run back and take a fairly simple catch at backward point.
A tremendous innings from Azhar. He could hardly have done more.
By Dean Bilton
156th over - Labuschagne again
Thick edge from Rizwan as he drives at a wide one. First slip would have swallowed it, but first slip doesn't exist right now.
By Dean Bilton
155th over - Josh Hazlewood back into the attack
Short spell for Green.
LBW SHOUT! Hazlewood likes it, and so do I. Umpire says no... and we won't have a review. Rizwan was down the wicket but a long way across. Still probably missing leg.
Big hooping innies from Hazlewood, well kept out by Rizwan.
Good running earns Rizwan one more as the over comes to an end.
By Dean Bilton
154th over - Marnus Labuschagne back into the attack
He's looked handy enough in tough circumstances.
Full and wide and driven out to deep point.
LBW SHOUT! Carey liked it mroe than Marnus. Not sure where that actually hit Rizwan... might have hit bat actually. Definitely not out.
BEAUTY! Great ball from Labuschagne. Ripped that one past the edge of Rizwan's bat.
Rizwan pulls one from outside the off stump for one to end the over, a good one from Marnus.

153rd over - Green charging in again
Serious reverse swing for Green, he's got it to move through the air the most of all the seamers. Both ways too.
Thick inside edge from Azhar evades the stumps and runs down to fine leg for one more.
Just two from the over. The game not really advancing at present.
