A Paisley woman has successfully landed a lead role in the musical Heathers in London.
Erin Caldwell, who went to Gleniffer High School, has been acting since she was seven years old and starred in Jess the Border Collie when she was just 11 years old and then went to PACE, a theatre company in Paisley for nine years.
Erin, 29, said: “It is amazing. I saw the show [Heathers] a couple of times and I loved it and I thought that was a role that I would love to do. I just finished Pretty Women in the Savoy Theatre in the West End. I remember thinking ‘I don’t know what I am going to do next’ because getting on at the West End took six years - a lot of hard work after leaving drama school.

“I then got an audition through for Heathers on the Thursday and then I got the job on the Saturday and started on the Tuesday. It was a really quick process. It is incredible. The first bow is a moment I will never forget - it is so special.”
Heathers the Musical is currently playing at The Other Palace in London and is based on the 1988 cult hit that starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.
Rehearsals were quick and Erin had to learn everything required for the show as quickly as possible, but despite all the rush, she felt supported throughout the entire process and loved working alongside her cast members who she described as “incredibly talented.”
The star is looking to continue to act in the future once Heathers is over and hoping that acting in strong female leads is something that she feels passionate about.
Erin told the Express: “I think continuing to play strong female roles is something that I am really passionate about. I think what I am doing is really important and the show is led by a woman - I think that is really important. I am very lucky to be able to do that.”
Despite all her hard work to get into the role, Erin is grateful for her family and PACE who supported her through everything, even though it seemed like she was having a hard time.
She added: “I want to say a big thank you to PACE because I just wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for them as they set up kids for life with confidence and they always believed in me. I can’t speak highly enough of them. I also want to thank my family for always believing in me even when I didn’t.”
The musical will be played at the London theatre until February 19 next year.
