Pair charged after Rutherglen 'disturbance' left two men in hospital

Two men have been charged following a "disturbance" which left another two people in hospital earlier this month.

We told how emergency services raced to Main Street in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, after the alarm was raised at around 2.45pm on Sunday April 3.

The incident came in the aftermath of the Old Firm derby clash between Celtic and Rangers at Ibrox.

Two men were rushed to hospital for treatment following the incident as police sealed off an area of the busy street.

Officers have now confirmed two men, aged 19 and 33, have been charged in connection with the disturbance.

The pair will be subject to a report to the procurator fiscal.

Cops say that, despite the arrests, their enquires into identifying others involved in the incident remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers have arrested and charged two men in connection with a disturbance that occurred on Main Street in Rutherglen around 2.45pm on Sunday, April 3, 2022.

"The men, aged 19 and 33, will be reported to the procurator fiscal."

Detective Inspector Susie Cairns, of Lanarkshire CID, added: "While we have made two arrests in relation to this incident, our investigation is ongoing to identify those involved in the disorder."
