'Pain and uncertainty' - Cristiano Ronaldo shares cryptic message after leaving Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo shared a cryptic Instagram post that referenced his 'pain and uncertainty' as his search for a new club after leaving Manchester United continues.

Ronaldo is a free agent after mutually agreeing to terminate his United contract last month following his already infamous interview with Piers Morgan. Ronaldo has been linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia but during the World Cup he denied having agreed to move there.

The last shot of Ronaldo on a football pitch saw him in tears as Portugal were knocked out of the World Cup after losing to Morocco at the quarter-final stage. Earlier in the tournament, he became the first men’s player to score in five separate World Cups after scoring a penalty against Ghana.

However, emotions were very different two weeks later with the superstar inconsolable with how his World Cup - thought to be his last as a player - ended. He later took to Instagram to express his desolation at the defeat by Morocco.

He wrote: “Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career. Fortunately I won many titles of international dimension, including Portugal, but putting our country's name on the highest foot in the World was my biggest dream.

“The dream was nice while it lasted... Now, it's hoping that the weather will be good advisor and allow each one to draw their own conclusions.”

Ronaldo's attention will now turn to the resumption of club football but he does not currently have a club to go back to. While figuring out his next move, Ronaldo shared a quote from the Netflix documentary ‘Stutz’, which sees prominent US actor Jonah Hill cover the life and achievements of his therapist Dr Phil Stutz.

Ronaldo posted a quote from the film on his Instagram story, which read: "Three aspects of reality: pain, uncertainty and constant work." Ronaldo is known for his unapologetic work ethic and determination to be the best.

This was brought into question by reports which claimed Ronaldo threatened to leave Portugal's World Cup camp after being dropped for the 6-1 last-16 win over Switzerland.

Ronaldo denied that was the case., writing: “I just want you all to know that much has been said, much has been written, much has been speculated, but my dedication to Portugal has not changed not for a moment.

"I was always one fighting for the objective of all and I would never turn my back on my colleagues and my country. Not much more to say for now.”
