Bookie Paddy Power have slashed the odds on football star Gary Neville bidding to become MP. The move comes following a report in City AM that the Manchester United legend is to step up his work with the Labour Party.
The financial newspaper said the former England right back was going to be making a series of appearances beside Sir Keir Starmer. Now Paddy Power has not only cut the odds on the Sky Sports pundit making a run for Parliament but also on him becoming Labour leader one day.
The Irish bookie has made the footballer 20/1 to stand for Parliament at the next election, down from 100/1 before the news. He is currently 25/1 to actually win a seat at the next election, speculated to be some time in 2024.
Paddy Power has also cut odds on the star to become the Leader of the Labour Party one day, going from 250/1 to 50/1. And it is currently standing at 66/1 for him to eventually become Prime Minister.
Closer to his homes, Gary Neville is priced at 10/1 to replace Andy Burnham and ,become Mayor of Greater Manchester. He is also currently 80/1 to start his own political party and 200/1 to sit in the House of Lords.
A Paddy Power spokesperson said: “Well we’ve slashed odds on him becoming an MP and on him becoming Labour leader one day given the company he’s been keeping of late. But don’t worry if you fail with the voters Gary, you can always do what all failed politicians do and join the House of Lords!”
