Paddy Pimblett's rival believes he is "living rent free" in UFC star's head

Jared Gordon believes his UFC fight against Paddy Pimblett last December has played on his rival's mind ever since.

Pimblett, 28, controversially beat Gordon at UFC 282 but many fans and fighters labelled the outcome as "one of the worst UFC decisions ever". Gordon landed more punches than Pimblett over three rounds and scored three takedowns whilst racking up over six minutes of control time on the ground, but the official fight stats didn't reflect the decision with all three judges scoring the fight 29-28 in Pimblett's favour.

'The Baddy' has since called for a rematch against Gordon despite beating him, sending an X-rated message to his rival just moments after undergoing ankle surgery last month. Gordon, who fights Bobby Green in Las Vegas on Saturday, thinks Pimblett's calls for a rematch show that he doesn't believe he won their fight.

“I’m clearly living rent free in his head,” Gordon told reporters. “He just had surgery, in his recovery room in the hospital, and the first couple words he’s talking about is Jared Gordon. If I thought I won a fight and I wanted to move on and upward, I wouldn’t be talking about Paddy Pimblett from my hospital bed. It’s not just me living rent-free in his head. It’s every other media outlet and person in the industry. Joe Rogan, Nate Diaz, I think said something. A bunch of people know I won the fight."

Pimblett was planning on making his UFC return at the end of the year but could now be sidelined until next year as his ankle injury is worse than expected. Gordon missed out on double of his fight purse by losing to Pimblett but said man of the Scouser's fans have messaged him insisting that he won their fight.

“His fans are my fans now,” Gordon added. “Every now and then there’s someone who’s like, ‘You’re Paddy’s son’ or something like that but if you look at his page, people send me screenshots of the comments of his page that say, ’30-27 Gordon’ or ‘Gordon’s son.’ I would say 99 per cent of MMA fans thought I won that fight.

"People from Liverpool and London constantly message me, ‘Oh, you beat Paddy, you’ve got to fight him again.’ With that decision, the only thing I really missed out on was the other half of my check. Which sucked, but I’m not like struggling for money, so I think it might’ve been a better thing for me the way things turned out.'”
