Paddy McGuinness has given a rare, and brilliantly honest, insight into life as a dad-of-three as he continues to live with ex-wife Christine McGuinness in their Cheshire home. The comedian and presenter was on The One Show on Thursday night (March 23) to chat about his new Channel 4 show, Tempting Fortune.
The new programme, hosted by Paddy, sees 12 strangers give up all luxuries to endure a gruelling 18-day trek across the South African wilderness as they attempt to reach a shared £300,000 prize at the finish line.
Picking up on the theme of the programme, The One Show host Jermaine Jenas asked what Paddy would be tempted by and he revealed that it would be "the little things." He told the former footballer and his co-host Alex Jones: "Weirdly for me I think it is tea and coffee."
Referring to his home life, the Bolton-born star went on to say: "I've got three kids, I've got to have at least four coffees in the morning. Parents out there will know exactly what I mean, I've got to have it!" He added: "God knows how I'd go on doing that. I can go without burgers and things like that but tea and coffee - it's the little things," as Alex, who is also mum to three children, agreed.
Paddy shares twins Penelope and Leo and youngest daughter Felicity with model Christine. The couple announced in July last year that they had decided to part ways but would continue to live together to raise their children, who all have autism.
Earlier this month, a proud Paddy shared a heartfelt message as the praise poured in for his ex Christine's brave solo documentary about her adult autism diagnosis at 33 while lifting the lid on living with the developmental disorder. The 49-year-old responded to the tear-jerking BBC One programme Christine McGuinness: Unmasking My Autism.
Christine provided an eye-opening insight into her autism and met others living with the condition. Her behaviour as a child was misunderstood as 'being naughty' and she dropped out of school at 14 without qualifications and entered beauty pageants. Her titles included Miss Commonweath for England, Miss Cheshire and Miss Liverpool and it was through dressing up that she embraced the "power of pretending."
In the documentary Christine, 35, also opened up about her split from Top Gear presenter Paddy, which the couple announced in July last year, saying that after 15 years together "I don't know what it's like to date." There was a heartbreaking moment when the former The Real Housewives of Cheshire star told how the Bolton TV star had made her feel "safe" after she had suffered sexual abuse from the age of nine. "Before Patrick I was sexually abused and raped and I used to pray every night that I wouldn't wake up in the morning because it was so awful," she said.
Taking to Instagram following the documentary, Paddy, shared a picture of a smiling Christine with two contributors from her documentary. He wrote: "Very proud of Christine for making this new documentary highlighting Autism, particularly in women. It’ll be a massive help to our daughters in years to come along with our little lad. #unmaskingmyautism #awareness #acceptence."
Following her solo return to the small screen, Christine has revealed that she's planning a getaway. Taking to Instagram on Thursday (March 23), she posted a picture of her being snapped taking a selfie in a sun-soaked location as she said: "Dear universe. More sunshine and sunsets please."
She added: "Can anyone recommend where this mama can get some heat April-May? Not too far away.. 4hrs max." She also posted the same call out to her Instagram Story and said: "Help me out. Where am I going this year?" before saying: "I need heat!"
