Paddy McGuinness given slap on wrist by BBC bosses after bizarre birthday shower video

Paddy McGuinness has reportedly been told off by BBC over an advert promotion amid filming for the new series of Top Gear.

The TV presenter, 49, accidentally breached editorial guidelines by posting an ad campaign for a clothing brand on Instagram over the weekend.

The former Take Me Out host, who recently split from his wife Christine, was told to edit the phrasing of a promotion for RevolutionRace after his caption was to BBC's distaste.

Lifting the lid on the drama, a spokesperson for BBC confirmed: "The words 'test driving' have now been removed to bring it into line with the editorial guidelines."

Paddy is currently busy filming the new series of Top Gear, alongside his co-stars Andrew Flintoff and Chris Harris.

The TV star celebrated his 49th birthday on Sunday, just a short few weeks after he and Christine, 34, announced their split after months of speculation.

The recently singer star told his followers that his 'birthday plans were out the window' following his marriage breakdown with Christine.

To mark his milestone birthday, Paddy took to Instagram to share the sad news with his 2 million followers in a 'shower news: drought edition' reel.

In the video, which some followers deemed 'bizarre', Paddy covered his dry body in shower gel as he said: "Welcome to this very special edition of shower news: drought edition."

Commenting on the recent UK heatwave, which has led to drought status in eight areas of England, Paddy said: "I tell you what, this sun is gorgeous. Yeah it's red hot but I'm enjoying it."

Paddy said in the video that he had initially hoped to have a barbecue with his family, but it was sadly no longer an option due to the extreme temperatures.

Addressing his recent split with Christine, Paddy said: "I thought I'd get in the garden with the kids, fill the paddling pool up and whack on the barbie but obviously all that's out the window now."

Earlier this month, Christine and Paddy broke the news that they had ended their 11-year marriage.

The couple share nine-year-old twins Leo and Penelope and six-year-old daughter Felicity.
