Paddington Village played host to first wellness in work event in Liverpool

Businesspeople gathered for an event focusing on wellness at work.

The Liverpool Wellness in the City (WITC) event took place in January at The Spine in Paddington Village, with 25 participating businesses including speakers from a variety of industries.

The event, headlined by speaker Cesar Gamio, from Peru, a global wellness expert who was also part of the panel on wellness at work. Business journalist Tony McDonough chaired co-panel members Alison Lobb (partner Morecrofts LLP) and psychotherapist and wellbeing author Kim Rutherford, and Lee Chambers.

The event aimed to influence more people to discover a sustainable wellbeing outlook, rather than just a January quick fix, by getting as many practitioners and speakers as possible in one place to share knowledge and expertise with employers, employees and the public.

Founder of WITC Clare Ellis told the ECHO: "It’s about having a wellbeing culture to help prevent stress and create positive working environments where individuals and organisations can thrive. Good health and wellbeing can be a core enabler of employee engagement and organisational performance."

The event hosted an array of businesses, organisations and holistic practitioners, offering a range of hard-to-find products and services aimed at preventative health. Artist Gemma Longworth from Channel 4 show Find It, Fix It, Flog It ran a paint yourself positive workshop and Vanessa Boateng of Viva Cosmetics sold organic products, sound baths, reiki and many more practitioners too.

Clare said: "We had great support for our inaugural event especially from the Business and IP Centre Liverpool, sponsoring the full day of activities. We teamed up with The Good Small Business Awards and Dallas Consulting as collaborative partners with the ubiquitous Garth Dallas introducing the event.”

Headline speaker Cesar Gamio added: “My hope is that companies will seek to meet international standards of workplace wellbeing to drive business performance, retain and attract talent and win additional business."

Garth said: "It's clear the Covid pandemic has affected the state of workplace health and wellbeing across the UK. We believe business leaders, employees and freelancers can help create a better world of work and improve their own wellbeing.

"Dallas Consulting, and the Good Small Business Awards are pleased to be collaborative partners of Wellness in the City, highlighting the key responsibilities of businesses”.

Author Kim said: "Our quality of life, professional and personal, is dependent on our health and psychological wellbeing. We have to stop seeing mental health and wellbeing as a luxury and start making it a priority. It's what I call Living the 8 Wise Way and why I created a blueprint for it”.
