Packers Wire staff predictions: Week 13 vs. Dolphins

The Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins will square off Thursday night in a holiday showdown at Lambeau Field.

Can the Packers gobble up yards and stuff the Dolphins on Thanksgiving Night in Green Bay?

Here’s how the staff at Packers Wire believes the Week 13 showdown with the Dolphins will go down:

Zach Kruse: Packers 24, Dolphins 20 (6-5)

The Dolphins have a quarterback playing fast and efficient, a defense that hasn’t allowed more than 20 points in almost a month and veteran playmakers on both sides of the football. This will be a tough test for Matt LaFleur’s team, especially on a short week. The Packers should have some advantages built in pre-game — Green Bay is at home, recently had a bye week (providing time to prepare for the short week) and could get a boost from the forecast, which calls for cold and wind. Still, the Packers have to go out and play near their best to beat a Dolphins team gaining confidence. Can LaFleur’s team show the physical and mental toughness to play in the cold on a short week? The guess here is that the Packers run game provides the difference. The Dolphins have struggled to run the ball this season, while Josh Jacobs is really starting to heat up as a punishing tackle-breaker. He is the physical, tone-setting presence the Packers need in a game like this. Also, mark this down: Tucker Kraft — another tackle-breaking machine — will create a play or two with the ball in his hands that changes the game.

Brandon Carwile: Packers 24, Dolphins 17 (9-2)

The Dolphins are riding a three-game win streak but will face an entirely different challenge when they travel to Green Bay for a sub-freezing Thanksgiving night showdown. Tua Tagovailoa has revitalized Miami’s offense since returning from a scary concussion, with the Dolphins averaging nearly 30 points per game over their last five contests. Their offensive versatility should keep this game close, but Green Bay’s home-field advantage and comfort in the elements should give them an edge. I’m expecting Josh Jacobs, fresh off a 100-yard performance with three touchdowns, to have another big day against a defense unaccustomed to cold-weather conditions.

Brennen Rupp: Packers 20, Dolphins 17 (10-1)

With their speed, Miami’s offense will stress the second level of Green Bay’s defense and it will be imperative that they gang tackle and limit the explosive plays. On offense, the formula is simple. Feed Josh Jacobs. Miami’s run defense is yielding 4.3 yards per carry and Jacobs should be able to continue to feast. Give me the Packers edging the Dolphins to keep pace with the Lions and Vikings.

Writer Prediction Score Record
Zach Kruse Win 24-20 6-5
Brandon Carwile Win 24-17 9-2
Brennen Rupp Win 20-17 10-1
