Packers training camp report: Live updates from Practice No. 2

Matt LaFleur, Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers will be back on the field for the second practice of training camp on Thursday morning. The team opened camp with a 90-minute practice on Wednesday. Paul Bretl of Packers Wire provided his observations here.

What will Day 2 bring at Ray Nitschke Field?

Here’s everything to know from Thursday, July 27, the second training camp practice of 2023:

What to know from Matt LaFleur's pre-practice press conference

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur

— On first day: “A lot of good out there.” Liked attitude, energy, effort. Lots of “execution” stuff to clean up.

— Packers defense won the third-down period on Wednesday, resulting in the offense doing push-ups post-practice. The challenge on Thursday is red zone.

— Confident Keisean Nixon has the athleticism and playmaking ability to play slot. Team will continue stressing him to be consistent against the run.

— On Rudy Ford: Looking for consistency. Made big plays last year.

— On Sean Rhyan: In much better shape in Year 2. “Hopefully he can build on that.” He has responded “the right way” after suspension.

— Said it’s a “challenge” to get Alex McGough up to speed quickly. He’s a “smart guy” and has experience. Credited game reps in USFL for helping him progress.

— Tough to get four quarterbacks reps during camp. They need to do reps against air before/after practices to get enough.

— Believes both Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt are both more mature entering Year 2.

— Packers teaching rookie Jayden Reed every spot at receiver. Will decide how much he can handle.

— Jordan Love is “well-respected” in the locker room. Consistent approach. “Everyone wants him to have a lot of success.”

— On Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft: Both intelligent guys, not afraid to work. Have a lot of confidence in tight end coach John Dunn. Different skill sets, Musgrave can run, Kraft has size, versatility. “Going to be fun to watch these guys grow along the way.”
