The Green Bay Packers traded veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, according to reporting from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Douglas, who started 28 games for the Packers over the last three seasons, will go from one of the NFL’s worst teams to one of the top contenders in the AFC at the deadline.
Per Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers sent Douglas and a fifth-round pick to the Bills in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2024 draft.
The Packers dropped a fourth straight game on Sunday and fell to 2-5, raising the possibility of general manager Brian Gutekunst selling off assets and increasing draft capital in the future. Douglas, a fiery veteran who can cover on the perimeter and play the run, was one of Green Bay’s most valuable assets.
Douglas produced six pass breakups and an interception in seven games in 2023. He was the defense’s third-highest graded player and top-graded defensive back at Pro Football Focus.
The trade leaves the Packers with Jaire Alexander, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine and Robert Rochell at cornerback. Alexander is dealing with a back injury, Nixon is the primary slot cornerback, Valentine is a rookie seventh-round pick and Eric Stokes is on injured reserve.
