Packers QB Jordan Love expected to miss time with MCL sprain

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has avoided the worst-case injury scenario coming out of Friday night’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Love will miss time with what is believed to be an MCL sprain in his left knee, but the injury is not expected to end his 2024 season.

Love was injured on the Packers’ final drive of Friday night’s 34-29 loss to the Eagles. He was hit high and low while lateraling the ball to running back Josh Jacobs, causing the ligament sprain in his left knee.

Love, who signed a $220 million deal with the Packers in late July, exited the field with help from trainers. Backup Malik Willis, who was acquired via trade with the Titans before final cuts, entered the game and played two snaps, throwing an incomplete pass before being sacked before attempting a Hail Mary on the game’s final play.

The recovery timeline on MCL sprains varies based on severity. Love could miss anywhere between 1-2 weeks and 1-2 months. Surgery is not typically required.

The Packers upcoming schedule includes the home opener vs. the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, a road trip to Nashville to play the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 and a visit from the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.

The Packers have Willis as the backup on the 53-man roster and 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford as the No. 3 option on the practice squad. Rookie Michael Pratt, who with the Packers during training camp, is on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Willis, a third-round pick in the 2022 draft, played in 11 games with the Titans, making three starts. The Titans went 1-2 in games started by Willis.

Love completed 17 of 34 passes for 260 yards, two touchdown passes and an interception before exiting the season opener.
