The Green Bay Packers bounced back from a Week 1 defeat with a resounding victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night at Lambeau Field.
Based on grades from Pro Football Focus, here are the best and worst performers from the Packers’ Week 2 win over the Bears:
Top 5 offense
1. RB Aaron Jones: 90.1
2. WR Randall Cobb: 85.3
3. QB Aaron Rodgers: 83.5
4. WR Sammy Watkins: 80.7
5. RB A.J. Dillon: 73.6
Jones was a monster over 40 snaps and 18 touches: He forced 13 missed tackles (11 rushing) and created 118 yards either after first contact (85) or after the catch (33). Cobb ran just 12 routes but caught all three targets for 37 yards (including one contested catch), meaning he averaged over 3.0 yards per route run. Rodgers played terrific from clean pockets and under pressure and didn’t have a turnover-worthy play. Watkins averaged over 5.0 yards per route run (93 yards, 18 routes) while doing all his work between the numbers in the middle of the field. Dillon averaged 2.83 yards after contact and forced four missed tackles.
Top 5 defense
1. CB Jaire Alexander: 78.9
2. DL Kenny Clark: 78.7
3. LB Quay Walker: 76.2
4. DL Dean Lowry: 72.9
5. OLB Preston Smith: 70.7
Alexander got dinged for giving up a 30-yard completion, but he also had the game-ending interception. Clark produced four pressures (including a quarterback hit) on only 16 pass-rushing attempts. Walker created two stops and was excellent in coverage (one pass breakup). Lowry had a pressure and earned the defense’s top run-defending grade. Smith had a team-high six pressures and five defensive stops over 37 snaps.
Bottom 5 offense
1. RG Royce Newman: 49.6
2. TE Josiah Deguara: 56.2
3. RT Elgton Jenkins: 58.5
4. TE Tyler Davis: 58.7
5. TE Robert Tonyan: 62.1
Newman gave up one pressure, got charged with a holding penalty and was the team’s lowest-graded run blocker. Deguara graded out poorly as a run blocker and didn’t have a catch. Jenkins, in his first game back, allowed a team-high four pressures (including a sack) and earned the lowest pass-blocking grade. Davis did little as a blocker and receiver. Tonyan caught two passes for just 11 yards on 14 routes.
Bottom 5 defense
1. DL TJ Slaton: 38.7
2. DL Jarran Reed: 52.0
3. OLB Rashan Gary: 59.0
4. S Adrian Amos: 59.2
5. CB Eric Stokes: 60.0
Slaton, a designated run stuffer, earned the lowest run-defending grade among the defensive linemen. Reed wasn’t far behind, and he also missed two tackles. Gary had three pressures on 17 pass-rushing snaps but got dinged hard for missing a tackle and his work against the run. Amos missed another tackle. Stokes missed two tackles and really struggled on the perimeter against the run.
Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers: 83.5
Rodgers had two “big time throws” and an adjusted completion percentage of 82.6. He got the ball out of his hands quick (2.14 seconds from clean pockets) and played well under pressure (3-of-4 for 59 yards). Rodgers also completed two passes thrown over 20 yards, averaged over 10 yards per attempt on play-action passes and didn’t have a turnover-worthy play.
Special teams
Dallin Leavitt had a penalty, but he also produced two solo tackles and an assisted tackle. The highest graded special teamer was linebacker Isaiah McDuffie, who had a tackle over 15 snaps. Tyler Davis played a team-high 20 special teams snaps. Tipa Galeai missed a tackle.
