Packers LB Edgerrin Cooper named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8

Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8 of the 2024 season.

Cooper, who played only 34 snaps, delivered eight tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup during the Packers’ 30-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. His strip-sack set up a touchdown, while his pass breakup — against receiver Christian Kirk — prevented an explosive play and forced a punt.

Cooper, a second-round pick in the 2024 draft, is the first Packers rookie to win NFC Defensive Player of the Week since Clay Matthews in 2009.

Per the Packers, Cooper became the first rookie in team history to produce at least eight tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one pass breakup in a single game.

Cooper is also the first rookie from Texas A&M to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors since Von Miller in 2011.
