David Long Jr. has found a new home.
The former Carolina Panthers cornerback, who was released this past Friday, has been officially claimed off waivers by the Green Bay Packers. He was waived off the active roster to make room for wide receiver Mike Strachan before the team’s Week 13 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Long Jr. joined the Panthers one month ago, when he was claimed from the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 3. He had appeared in eight games for the Raiders prior to his short stint in Charlotte.
The 25-year-old ended up playing in three contests for the Panthers—against the Chicago Bears in Week 10, the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11 and the Tennessee Titans in Week 12. Long Jr. saw his most action in Nashville, where he lined up on 49 defensive snaps in the 17-10 loss.
In addition to getting healthier at the cornerback positions with the returns of Jaycee Horn and CJ Henderson, the Panthers also signed former Pro Bowler Shaquill Griffin to help fortify the secondary.
