Pablo Fornals says West Ham must find a solution to their struggles in front of goal with their Champions League hopes fading fast following Saturday’s draw with Newcastle.
The Spaniard, along with Michail Antonio, made a flying start to the season in front of goal but both are now having little impact in the final third.
Fornals has just one goal in his last 13 Premier League appearances, Antonio has two from his last 17 and Said Benrahma just two from 18.
The Hammers have been heavily reliant on Jarrod Bowen’s goals of late but the winger was well shackled by Newcastle on Saturday.
David Moyes has called on his attacking players to find another gear and has warned them they may be replaced in the summer if they cannot step up.
Asked why the goals had dried up, Fornals told Standard Sport: "If I knew that obviously I would try to change but the gaffer is totally right. We have to start scoring more goals or try to defend a bit better when we have a goal at least."
Saturday was the second consecutive game in which West Ham had taken the lead, through Craig Dawson’s header, only to drop two points as they did at Leicester City the week before.
Moyes dismissed concerns over fatigue despite his side looking weary, and Fornals insists that despite the busy schedule they are close to being back to their best.
"We have an unbelievable squad with many players but it is true that we have a main block [of players]," said Fornals. "And this main block is playing for many games, but we did the same last season and this season we are fighting.
"We are not winning at the moment but we are not losing, it is just about starting to click those small things, we are going to come back soon.
"100 per cent [we feel close]. It is all a process, we didn’t play well against Kidderminster or Watford but we won. We played a bit better against Leicester and then again better against Newcastle so I think it is a process and we are in a good way."
