Owners of empty and second homes in Neath Port Talbot face having to pay double council tax

Neath Neath Port Talbot

Neath Port Talbot Council is to consult on plans to put a 100% premium council tax on long-term empty and second homes across the borough.

A report was presented to cabinet outlining the discretionary powers that councils have had since April, 2017, under the Housing (Wales) Act 2014, to be able to charge higher amounts of up to 100% on top of the standard rate of council tax on long-term empty homes and second homes.
