Owner of Poundland reportedly wants to sell after just a year

  • Discount retailer Poundland is reportedly set to be put up for sale by owner Gordon Brothers just a year after being acquired.
  • Advisers are expected to be appointed in the coming days to oversee a potential auction process for the high street chain.
  • The retailer currently operates around 600 UK stores and employs 12,000 people, following 200 store closures over the past year.
  • Poundland recorded a £79m pre-tax loss in the year to September 2024, but management noted progress in cost management and returning to £1 price points.
  • US investment firm Gordon Brothers has not given a reason for the potential sale, which aligns with its business model of restructuring and reselling assets.
