Owner calls for someone to do 'better job than I did' as town's pizza joint closes down

A pizza joint that opened earlier this year has closed its doors for good. Nigel Regan, owner of Who Said Pizza? in Bingham, has called time on the business.

As well as pizzas such as margherita and pepperoni the restaurant and takeaway honoured its location with one called True Bingham, topped with mozzarella, ricotta and Stilton and cheddar. Mac 'n' cheese, wedges and desserts including waffles and pancakes were also on the menu..

Mr Regan announced the closure on Facebook and Instagram, saying: "Well, that was fun! Hope you all enjoyed it. Opportunity for someone to bring something new and adventurous to Bingham and do a better job than I did!" He added that he didn't give the business "the energy it needed and didn't follow my own advice... stick to the plan and focus, focus, focus."

Followers leapt to his defence. One commented: "Given the timing and economic climate, you did a, fabulous job. The service was excellent and so was the food. Sorry it didn't work out."

Who Said Pizza? was competing with high street chain Domino's which opened around the corner in Church Street earlier this year and well-established takeaway Barolo opposite.

Supporters are sad to see the business fold. "Shame, this was head and shoulders ahead of the other pizza palaces in Bingham, they didn't even come close, but you can't keep a good man (or woman) down. Time to move on to the next adventure then," said one.

The business attracted mixed reviews. One praising the food said: "Amazing food. You can tell the pizzas are made with quality ingredients. Brilliant little place for a chilled hangout or to meet friends. Easily one of the best around for the money.

But one of the most recent said: "Very rude staff, poor customer service. Pizza was burnt and so dry, no option for thin crust or medium or thick so I expected medium but it was so thin. Called to complain because it's so burnt and dry. Staff was sooo rude, kept raising her voice at me over the phone and abruptly she hung the call on me. I will never recommend to my enemy infact! Absolutely disappointed! The one rating is too much. It's a zero."

Mr Regan was contacted for comment. He also runs Yeung Sing Cantonese restaurant in Bingham with his wife Pok U, along with cocktail bar, Bar 15, and hotel, the Bingham Townhouse, which featured on Channel 4's Four in a Bed.
