Owen Farrell and Jonny May have withdrawn from England’s training camp ahead of the Autumn Nations Series.

Eddie Jones and his squad after spenind five days in Jersey as they prepare for matches at Twickenham next month against Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa.

Farrell was knocked unconscious during Saracens’ Premiership victory over Exeter Chiefs on Saturday and he was replaced immediately, with return-to-play protocols dictating that a concussed player must stand down for a minimum of 12 days. That could make the flyhalf a doubt for England’s first match against Argentina on November 6.

“Owen Farrell will progress through his graduated return to play protocols at home,” the RFU said.

May sustained an elbow injury as Gloucester beat London Irish 22-21 on Friday night, while injured duo Henry Arundell and Will Stuart will still travel as they nurse foot and knee injuries, respectively.

Sale’s Tom Roebuck earns a first call-up, with Adam Radwan and Henry Slade also recalled, and Charlie Atkinson, who has recently been linked with Leicester, will join up with Jones’ ranks as a training player.

England have had a mixed 2022, winning just two Six Nations matches earlier in the year and suffering a heavy loss to the Barbarians, but they then edged past Austraia in Sydney to take the series 2-1 and provide a much-needed boost ahead of the World Cup in 12 months’ time.
