Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that Season 2 of Overwatch will also see the release of a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of its FPS title.
In the blog post detailing Overwatch Season 2 (that is, Season 2 of the game since Blizzard decided to rename Overwatch 2 to just Overwatch earlier this year), hidden right at the bottom of the post is an update on the previously-announced Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Overwatch. Alongside the launch of Season 2 on April 14 (that's today, for anyone keeping score), a dedicated version for the platform which promises "better visuals, higher fidelity audio, and up to 60 FPS in both docked and handheld mode" will be available.
As someone who has been getting back into Overwatch in recent weeks, the Nintendo Switch version of the game (played on Switch 2) has become a favorite of mine. Since I'm not heading straight into the sweaty competitive zone, a nice way to casually pick up and play a game of the shooter makes for a shockingly good version. Plus, it actually has gyro aim, which Blizzard seemingly refuses to include in the PS5 version despite the DualSense having gyro control capabilities.
However, even on Switch 2 you can notice the cutbacks to the Switch 1 version. There are missing props in the spawn rooms, and a bit of general roughness that takes a bit to get used to (especially when the alternative I've been playing is 120fps on PS5 Pro). So, hopefully this Switch 2 Edition brings an uncompromised version of the game that allows me to pick up and play for a while and get annoyed when none of the team bothers to stick on the point and we manage to choke a game we were dominating because you just had to run in to try and get them at spawn.
