As promised, Blizzard is planning some extensive Overwatch 2 season 2 balance changes for a wide range of heroes. While Blizzard is holding back on full balance change explanations until the season begins on Dec. 6, 2022, the dev team did tease in a new blog post that Sojourn and Doomfist will see some of the biggest adjustments.
Sojourn continues to wipe the floor in competitive play, not least because of her powerful railgun, so Blizzard plans on reducing its range in the upcoming season.
Doomfist is getting “significant changes that better support his role as the team’s front line” without completely changing his playstyle. One criticism the character faced after Overwatch 2 launched was that he was unprepared for the change from DPS to tank, as Blizzard only gave him one weak defensive skill and maintained his signature slow rate of fire and slow reload rate.
Other characters Blizzard will tweak include Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Mercy, and Symmetra.
Season 2 will also add a brand-new map alongside some fan-favorites and tweaks to current maps. Shambali Monastery map makes its debut alongside new tank Rammatra, while fan-favorite map Rialto is coming back in season 2 with Blizzard Land. We’ll also travel to Nepal and Oasis at different times of day.
Blizzard is putting Hollywood and Watchpoint on rotation for the season as well, though you can still choose off-rotation maps in custom games.
Season 2 will also include two events: Winter Wonderland from Dec. 13, 2022, through Jan. 4, 2022, and Lunar New Year from Jan. 17, 2023, through Feb. 1, 2023. In keeping with Blizzard’s goal to reward players with more cosmetics, you can earn some new Legendary skins just for playing, including Winged Victory Mercy, Ice Queen Brigitte, and Kkachi Echo.
