Overwatch 2 developer Blizzard has finally revealed the newest hero that is coming to the team-based shooter, Juno, and she will be playable this weekend ahead of her full release in August.
Juno is the latest addition to Overwatch 2's roster and will be a support hero that players can dive into from July 19, 2024, to July 21, 2024. Prior to her official reveal, the character was known only as Space Ranger as she was teased at Blizzcon 2023 alongside Venture.
Overwatch 2's New Support Hero
At the time, players could only speculate about Juno's abilities based on her weapon, which is a blaster and shoulder attachments on her space suit. But now, thanks to her gameplay trailer, people now know exactly how she plans on using them to get a win for her team.
Blizzard's official breakdown of Juno's abilities says that she is equipped with Pulsar Torpedoes that can lock onto multiple targets.
The character's Glide Boost ability also allows her to swiftly maneuver the battlefield so she can provide support for her teammates, according to IGN.
The studio added that the upcoming hero's Hyper Ring propels the team into action while her Ultimate, Orbital Ray, boosts damage and heals allies. In a separate post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Blizzard also revealed Juno's voice actor, Xanthe Huynh.
The arrival of the new character adds another support-type hero that many fans of Overwatch 2 will be happy to play. So far, the game features 12 tank characters, 18 attack characters, and 10 support characters.
Due to Juno's high mobility, she could become an exceptionally meta pick for supporters who are looking to provide widespread assistance to their team. Another thing to note is that the character's pistol can both damage enemies and heal allies.
When the new hero joins the Overwatch 2 roster temporarily from July 19, 2024, to July 21, 2024, she will be playable across all platforms, said Ginx.TV.
The last teaser for Juno prior to her official reveal was with the addition of a crashed escape pod in one map of Overwatch 2. It included an encoded message that was being transmitted by the pod that said, "J has landed."
Juno's Value to the Team
Many players took that morsel of information to be a reference to Jiayi, who is an old friend of Mei, another Overwatch 2 character.
However, Juno's apparent youth could mean that she is actually Jiayi's daughter, which is something that many people have speculated for quite some time, according to PCGamer.
Adding a new support hero could help Blizzard as Overwatch 2 fans are calling the game's tank-centric patch more than a week ago the worst it has ever had.
This came as July 9, 2024, patch included efforts to address the lack of "tankiness." of the game's tank-type characters.
However, many people said that this particular update is a major overcorrection by Blizzard, with some calling it the worst balance patch ever. This was partly due to the update affecting all 12 tank-type heroes and what it does for each of them.
