In 2016, Netflix released a little show called Stranger Things. It wasn’t the platform’s first original production (that honour goes to House of Cards, which hit the airwaves in 2013), but it was close – but ten years later, and it’s Stranger Things that has gone onto be the defining megahit for the streamer.
The show boasted a killer plot, star turns from its child-actor cast, and a hefty dose of 80s nostalgia that adults above a certain age gravitated towards like super-powered neon catnip. Over the last nine years, it’s gone on to be nominated for a staggering 256 awards, of which it’s won 81. But fast forward to the final season, and the picture we’re getting is ever-so-slightly different.
