More than 300 passengers evacuated from Glasgow train due to incident

MORE than 300 passengers were evacuated from a Glasgow train due to an incident.

An Avanti West Coast service travelling from London Euston to Glasgow Central lost power at Abington near Lockerbie at around 5.30pm on Monday, September 9.

It was previously reported that the rail service tweeted that the line towards Glasgow Central was "blocked" and customers were being urged to check their journeys.

STV is reporting that around 355 people were affected by the delays.

Avanti West Coast confirmed that passengers were "evacuated" onto a replacement train just after 9.30pm.

The company has said any passengers affected by the delay can apply for compensation.

An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: “At approximately 5:30pm yesterday (09/09), we were made aware of a fault on the 13:30 Euston to Glasgow service leaving it without power at Abington between Lockerbie and Motherwell.

“The line towards Glasgow Central was subsequently blocked.

“Passengers were evacuated onto a replacement train just after 9.30pm to take them to safely to their destination.

"We apologise to any customers for their experience yesterday and would encourage anyone caught up in the disruption to claim for compensation.”
