Over 2,000 dogs stolen last year as canine criminals strike six times a day across UK

New figures reveal that dog thieves across the UK strike six times per day on average - with 2,160 dogs reported as stolen across 2022.

American bulldogs were revealed to be the most targeted canine, accounting for 90 of the total figure.

And shockingly, only one in four dogs were successfully reunited with their owners, with the statistics potentially not showing the full scale of the problem that is dognapping. Beverley Cuddy of Stolen and Missing Pets Alliance said: “A significant number of cases still go unreported.”
