Over 13 lakh driving licences issued in Bengaluru districts between 2019 & 2021

BENGALURU: Regional transport offices in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts issued more than 13.7 lakh driving licences (DLs) between 2019 and 2021.

Data given as part of a written reply in the recently concluded legislature session shows that more than 12.8 lakh of these DLs were issued in Bengaluru Urban while 92,549 were issued in Bengaluru Rural. There were also 4,844 rejections, almost all of them for failing the driving test or for non-compliance with the required documentation.

In Bengaluru Rural, 48,710 DLs were for two-wheelers, 40,191 for cars, and 3,648 for heavy motor vehicles. In Benglauru Urban, more than 7 lakh DLs were for two-wheelers, nearly 5.4 lakh for cars, and 36,026 for heavy motor vehicles.

As per transport department data on vehicle registrations, as of October 2021, Bengaluru Urban had more than 1 crore two-wheelers, 40 lakh cars, and 6.2 lakh heavy motor vehicles. TNN
