'Outrageous' Nick Pope save and questions arise over Newcastle's final third

Nick Pope's brilliant second-half save ensured Newcastle's unbeaten run in the Premier League continues. The Magpies were the better side at Selhurst Park, but couldn't find a way through a stern Eagles defence.

The England international pulled off a brilliant save to deny Jean Philippe Mateta in the latter stages of the game - Crystal Palace's only real threat on target. Pope was at full stretch to ensure the impressive run of clean sheets in the top flight continues.

"Outrageous," Jenas said on Match of The Day. "It's good to have it in real time as well because it just does it justice. He hits this so well Mateta. It's close, it goes through bodies and his reactions, it's just an incredible save and I think, big keepers make big saves in key moments."

When asked if Pope was the best English shot stopper, Jenas replied: "100 per cent, best English keeper, I think so."

There was a feeling of disappointment at full-time, given the Magpies were clearly the better side, but unable to find a breakthrough. Some supporters called for further investment into the front line after coming up short against the Eagles, combined with Chris Wood's recent departure.

However, fellow pundit Danny Murphy said the Magpies shouldn't change anything they're doing on the pitch, despite drawing a blank at Selhurst Park. Murphy said: "You can't have the best of both worlds when you're trying to get to the top of the league and compete. I wouldn't change a thing.

"I think they've set the foundation of what they're trying to do, which is be hard to beat and try and be on the front foot and win football matches. On occasion they're not scoring."
