Outpouring of love as Nottingham's oldest gay bar to be sold

The people of Nottingham have shared their fond memories of the city's oldest gay bar after it was announced that it would be sold. Owner Debbie Law confirmed that she was selling the New Foresters, in St Ann's Street, which has served as a 'safe space' for the LGBTQ+ community since the 1950s.

She said the reason behind the decision was due to the pain she was suffering from fibromyalgia "starting to get worse". Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, she said: "My main aim is to make sure that I can pass it to a person who has the same passion and dedication that I have had for the last 21 years. We all need a safe haven, whether you are gay, straight or bisexual."

Since the announcement, there has been an outpouring of love from Nottinghamshire Live readers, with many reminiscing of their nights spent at the Foresters. One Facebook user named Jon Jon said: "Some great memories here and was always made to feel so welcome. Very sad but I wish Debbie all the best and thank you for the good times."
