Outlander star Sam Heughan shares behind the scenes footage of season six

Outlander star Sam Heughan has delighted fans by sharing some behind the scenes footage of season six.

Fans all over the world were over the moon when 'Droughtlander' finally came to an end on Sunday and the first episode aired on STARZ.

And now, Sam Heughan - who plays Jamie Fraser in the hit show - posted some behind the scenes footage from on the set on his Instagram page.

The opening scenes in the first episode took viewers back to Ardsmuir Prison, where Jamie was held following the Battle of Culloden.

Speaking to the camera dressed in his Jamie Fraser get up, Sam said: "Martini shot on Outlander and it's just miserable and raining - Happy season 6!"

His on-screen wife Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser in the show, replied: "Now if only they’d brought over a tray of martinis … might not have been so miserable."

And fans loved seeing Jamie Fraser in more recent times as he clutched an umbrella in the typical Scottish weather.

One wrote: "Glad we’ve moved past the brutal ponytail. I miss that “young Jamie” hairdo."

Another added: "You and all the actors are amazing working in those conditions and never showing it!!"

While one said: "Ha ha. You were in the mood. Episode 1 is intense. I felt so bad for Jamie. You surely needed a drink after."

One said: "Loved the first episode!!! Can’t wait for more! #thedroughtlanderisover."

While another commented: "Whooo ! Behind the scene ! Thank you Sam for sharing those little moments during filming Outlander ! These much appreciated."

Since the extended 90-minute episode aired on Sunday, fans have been raving about everything from Sam Heughan's performance to the arrival of the Christies.

And it seems they'll now have even more to look forward to after a new clip was posted by the official Outlander channel which shows what's in store for episode two.

Dubbed 'Allegiance', it's due to hit our screens on March 13 and will follow up on the exciting events shown in 'Echoes'.

The next episode airs on Sunday night on STARZ.
